SUMMERFILM FAQ

All camps take place in the month of July. Please see specific dates here for each camp:

  • DOCUMENTARY FILM PRODUCTION FOR TEENS | IN PERSON | Monday, July 6– Friday, July 10 • 10:00am–4:00pm
  • NARRATIVE FILM PRODUCTION FOR TWEENS | IN PERSON | Monday, July 13 – Friday, July 17 • 10:00am–4:00pm
  • YOUTH IN INDUSTRY LAB | ONLINE | Wednesdays  –July 8 – July 29 • 10:00am–1:-00pm PT
  • YOUNG CURATORS | ONLINE | Fridays –  July 10 – July 31 • 10 am–12 pm PT

All in-person camps take place at the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center, 1118 Fourth Street in San Rafael. All online camps are hosted on Zoom and open to students anywhere in the U.S.

Yes, we have two online camps: Youth In Industry Lab and Young Curators. A CAFILM Education representative will share a Zoom link and calendar invite a month before the camp begins. Make sure you have the following items ready to go prior to joining the camp:

  • Device with a camera and microphone (e.g., laptop or desktop computer, tablet, smartphone)
  • Reliable wifi connection
  • Zoom app (make sure you have the most current version downloaded. You can download the app for free at https://zoom.us/)
  • Pen and paper to take notes (optional)

Early Bird Registration opens January 28, 2026 for CAFILM Members. You can become a member here. All General Registration opens February 4, 2026. Our registration does not close, but we recommend that you register at least two weeks before the start date of your preferred camp.

Thank you for being a CAFILM member! Please complete your SummerFilm registration and answer “Yes” or “I became a member for Early Bird SummerFilm Registration” on our Are you a CAFILM member? When you are ready to paid for SummerFilm via our Agile Payment system, please log in to your CAFILM account and the member discount will be applied at checkout. 

We will confirm your registration upon receipt and follow up with further details. Please check your spam folders for correspondence if you do not hear back from us within 48 hours. Once confirmed, you are all set!

We normally send our camp information, schedule, and parental consent and media release forms in June, a month before camps begin.

 You can apply for a 2026 Summerfilm scholarship here. Full and partial need-based scholarships are available for all programs.

Thank you for applying for a 2026 Summerfilm scholarship. The CAFILM Education team will evaluate, review and accept scholarships on a first-come, first-served basis. We can’t always fulfill each scholarship application.

If your 100% scholarship is approved, you do not have to pay for your selected camp. If your 50% scholarship is approved, we will share a discount code for you to use at checkout. We will confirm your scholarship via email. Please check your spam folders for correspondence if you do not hear back from us within 48 hours.

Before May 20: Full Refund

After May 21-June 1: 50% Refund

After June 1: No Refund
