Thank you to all of the teachers and students who participated in the DocLands Education program at the 8th DocLands Film Festival!
We had an intimate group of students joining us in the theater, and a robust number of students watching the same films online. CAFILM Education had over 729 individuals participating in our screenings. We reached over 559 eager students in our in person and online screenings; 90 attentive students in our Filmmakers Go To School program; and 80 general public individuals attending our free community screening of our unique, DocLands Education shorts program.
CAFILM Education staff take pride in how we engage filmmakers and students in in-depth, post- screening conversations. This year at DocLands, we conversed with students about immigration laws and ethical documentary practices. We covered the following cities with our online and in person offerings: Mill Valley, San Rafael, Vallejo, San Francisco, Alameda, Oakland. Being in the theater, among good company, never felt better.
Thank you all for joining us this year. See you next May!
“Watching this documentary helped open up more doors to help me understand the way different people live. In conclusion, I believe that this was an impressive and astounding film.”
—Student, Tam High School, Mill Valley
“The most important thing that I learned from the film is realizing how many people share the same issues/history that we do and thus its essential that we as a community help each other”
—Student, Leland High School, San Jose
“It truly touched me to get to experience such a hard topic from someone who’s gone through the hardest parts of it first hand. I believe that having someone talk to students to educate them was so important. I know it touched so many people, especially myself. It opened my eyes to a whole world that I didn’t realize needed more help. It motivated me to learn more on the topic and try in any way to help out.”
—Student, Tam High School, Mill Valley
