IN PERSON | July 7-11 • 10:00am – 4:00pm | Ages 14-18 | $1100.
This five-day program teaches the ins and outs of nonfiction storytelling and filmmaking. Professional documentarians will walk you through the necessary steps to produce short documentary films in small-group collaborations, while exploring critical skills and methods such as interviewing, story structure, narration, point of view, camera technique, and more. The program will include a combination of hands-on lessons, viewings, discussions, and practical experience. All filmmaking equipment will be provided.
IN PERSON | July 14-18 • 10:00am – 4:00pm | Ages 11–13 | $1100.
This 5 day program is an opportunity for tweens to learn from first-class film professionals in a fun, interactive, and collaborative environment—and a great way for both beginning and intermediate aspiring filmmakers to enhance their craft and storytelling skills. You will learn elements of screenwriting, cinematography, sound, editing, and more, and will collaborate with fellow students on the writing, production, and editing of a short movie. All filmmaking equipment will be provided.
ONLINE | Wednesdays • 10:00am – 1:00pm PT | July 9-30 | Ages 14-18 | $500.
Whether your interests lie in editing, scoring, set design, screenwriting, cinematography, marketing, or an area of the industry you haven’t even yet discovered, the path to becoming an entertainment professional becomes a lot clearer once you explore the myriad opportunities available to you. The Youth in Industry program will connect you with film industry professionals for vocational training in a diverse range of fields that will help you better understand how to think about career access and learn about our industry’s common language. Over the course of four weeks, you will meet an array of film professionals from varying corners of the business in a weekly series of online interactive workshops.

Ever wonder how movies get chosen for the Mill Valley Film Festival? In this online program you will learn from festival and arthouse theater programmers around the country about how a film festival works and how they decide what to show to their audiences. Then you will take part in the selection process as a member of the jury that chooses the films for the youth-produced shorts program at MVFF48 You will screen dozens of short films from all over the globe, discuss them with your fellow jurors, and learn how to curate the program for exhibition at our annual festival in October. Over the course of the 4-week program, you will be assigned new films to view on your own each week and will meet via Zoom as a group once a week for programmer presentations, film discussions, and the final jury deliberation process to curate the program. If you like watching movies, this is for you! All Young Curators also receive accreditation to the 2025 Mill Valley Film Festival, providing free access to in-person and online screenings and events.
